Branding your vehicles with Silent Sentinel Body Panel ID labels and stickers is a straightforward process. Once you’re familiar with the steps, you should be able to complete a car in less than five minutes.
Follow this guide to ensure proper application and tracking.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Before you begin, make sure you have everything you need:
- A set of four Silent Sentinel Body Panel ID labels
- Two Silent Sentinel window stickers
- Isopropyl alcohol and a clean cloth for surface preparation
- A logbook to track the VINs of the vehicles you are applying the labels to
Step 2: Prepare the Car for Label Application
Select the locations for the four body panel labels. These should be placed on painted metal surfaces that are not visible under normal operating conditions, including:
- One under the hood
- One on the inside of each door panel near the locking mechanism
- One on the underside of the trunk or hatchback
Choose areas that experience minimal wear and maximum protection from the elements. Avoid placing labels on junction points of panels or components.
Next, clean the target surfaces thoroughly using isopropyl alcohol to remove wax, dirt, oil, grease, or moisture. Allow the surfaces to dry completely before applying the labels.
Step 3: Apply the Body Panel Labels
Gently peel each body panel ID label from the backing and apply them to the selected locations. Press firmly to ensure they adhere properly.
Step 4: Apply the Window Stickers
Silent Sentinel window stickers should be placed as follows:
- One in the lower right-hand corner of the driver-side window
- One in the lower left-hand corner of the front passenger-side window
Step 5: Record the ID Number
After applying the labels, log the details in your record book. Be sure to include:
- The body panel ID number
- The vehicle’s make, model, and year
- The VIN number
You will need this information later to add the vehicle to the Silent Sentinel online database.
Final Notes on Label Curing
The chemical etching process of the label penetrates the paint and bonds to the steel of the vehicle. It requires approximately 7-10 days to fully cure, depending on temperature and humidity. While the label should remain on the vehicle, if it is ever removed, the embedded trace residue ID number can still be read using an ultraviolet black light lamp.
